Creative Use Of Wood In Your Bathroom

Bathrooms are one of those places that always get left behind when it comes to decor even though deep inside you really want them done. I blame it on not being seen so you’re not getting a consistent “wow factor” out of them, when in reality they deserve the same love, if not more, as the rest of your home. I mean think about it, this is THE first place you go to for some “me time” and one of the most visited places in your home, making it beautiful is good for your state of mind. So, I’d love to share 5 creative ways you can use just a simple piece of wood to elevate your bathroom’s look.

This is one of my favorite ideas and it’s so simple to make.

All you need:

  1. A beautiful piece of wood from your local hardware or lumber store

  2. Cut it slightly larger than the width of your bathtub

  3. Stain and varnish it the color of your choice

That’s it! You got yourself a bathtub shelf so enjoy your bath with a book, a glass of wine (or whiskey for me) maybe a candle or a small towel to wipe your hands in case they get wet.. who knows, your bath possibilities are endless now.

It goes without saying that you can also just build wooden shelves. The key word here is creative.

You can customize box shelves to fit your own needs and create a unique look for your bathroom. You can use them as a framing tool to outline different things or you can use them as actual shelves of varying sizes. Playing with the width and thickness of your wood will be your road to creativity.

uh… chuh. I know, mind blowing innovation; we call it wood 😏. I mean how do I really explain this one? Just like.. put a piece of wood up to cover your rod yo. It’ll change your life.

This is one of the cutest (professional word right there) and most functional ways you can get more out of your bathroom space. Adding a shelf by your vanity mirror(s) is not a new idea but it’s underutilized. You can use it simply to add decor items or actually organize the hot mess on your vanity surface.

There are also multiple ways you can go about this: one shelf placed directly under the mirror(s), under the mirror(s) but with a bit of wall space, across the bottom 5th of the mirror(s), two or three horizontal equal-sized shelves.. I can keep going but you get the idea.

Creating hooks made from wood is a bit harder but it establishes cohesiveness with your overall design if you went with all or some of the above. You can choose to go with an easy “L”-shaped bracket or go with more customized ideas.

I’ve seen some AMAZING looks from using the hooks in different shapes; using different kinds of wood and different stains to create an art piece from the hooks on the wall; using a simple board as the backbone for your metal hooks; a combination of leather strips and wooden rods.. literally endless.

I hope you can see the value wood can bring to your bathroom. Keep in mind, these are not ideas for a specific style. You can make them fit anything from farmhouse to contemporary based on how you treat the wood. More fluid, organic shapes and colors lean toward the farmhouse, rustic, bohemian looks while polished, clean-angles tend toward contemporary, modern looks. I’m excited to see what you come up with and please feel free to share your ideas or projects with me!
