Up 2 Speed
It’s been a long time since I posted anything about what I am working on. It goes without saying that everyone has been going through a lot but even before the coronavirus hit, we had a bit of a crazy year: selling and buying houses, buying an RV, surgeries, car sales, car purchases, birthdays, milestones.. the works.
But for the sake of catching up, here’s a brief recap. We sold our house in Lincoln fairly quickly, it was bittersweet because we had really great memories there but I couldn’t wait for a new chapter. We had a gem of an opportunity to live with my parents while house hunting and really utilized it to its full potential; we lived it up, I mean full-on teenage mode. Playing golden-T at our local bars almost 4 times a week (if you don’t know what golden-T is, don’t go down that path of unrighteousness but FYI we’re members, we have cards), eating out whenever we could but also eating in because it’s M-AZING, binge-watched all the shows and movies, went to concerts, casinos, breweries, what have you. It was exactly what we needed between two huge life events and we’re so thankful for their hospitality. It was also right after Devin’s surgery so it was great to have a break from adulting.
That was detrimental to us in other ways: saving money (I think) but also not settling into a house that didn’t fit both of our qualifications which we’ve finally found in October of 2019 and moved in November; week of Thanksgiving.
Now let me tell you a bit about this house that fell into our lap. It’s in a little tiny town called Eden Valley that’s smushed between Colfax and Meadow Vista in Northern California. It sits on about 2.5 acres of mostly pure hill but the view that comes with it is unreal. That was my ultimate dream, having a gorgeous, isolated view that would make me feel closer to nature. It’s not a big house but we’re ok with that, it’s the perfect size for us; 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, an open kitchen, cathedral ceilings, floor to wall windows and 2 sheds. It was built in 2009 by the previous owners which is a blessing from a construction perspective but it was also built by very.. um… rustic.. people so tons of things don’t make sense. I curse my sink daily.
We’ve been spending our time making this home OUR home. Not just a model home to fit an ideal or a photo but really make it our own. For instance, we turned one bedroom into an office. We recognized that we live quite far from … well, everything… so knowing that we always WANT to work out, we turned the other bedroom into a gym. Devin took one of the sheds and turned it into his shop and I took the other shed and turned it into my business storage. He built me a garden area outside of my shed. We got a blow up jacuzzi and we love it so much that we built it a platform #noshame. And we have so many plans that we’re chipping away at.
There are tons of other things that happened but I think that’s a pretty good recap for now. Hopefully this caught you up to speed so you’re on the same page and start tagging along our journey.
