Tubtastic Transførmation
The Støry
Our clients loved and lived in their home for quite some time but wanted to transform their primary bathroom to something with a personal touch that matches their style better. This was a tight budget so major remodeling wasn’t in the cards but wanted to see if we can think of DIY ways to turn this standard primary bathroom into something more. Oh! Did we mention they had a muralist paint their primary bedroom? Hmm.. we really had to think outside of the box.
The Design
When designing anything in an existing space, we always love to take into account the surroundings and the clients’ lifestyle. The home had a very unique look as the owners loved collecting and displaying various artworks and decor pieces. Think Anthropologie x World Market. They also really loved the Mediterranean feels, which Sarah was perfect for.
To keep costs low, we decided to keep the existing paint job which was a soft pink and play off the whimsical feels. We also knew that we had to keep the tub, vanity, sinks and countertop because they would far exceed the clients’ budget. However, just because we had to keep something, didn’t mean we couldn’t give them a bit of a facelift, which is what DIY is all about!
Sarah’s idea was inspired by her home in Alexandria, Egypt. It had tons of unique mirrors with arabesque decor flowing throughout. We landed on replacing the lighting, mirrors, hardware, curtains but also painting the vanity counter and maybe doing something crazy with the tub.. like hand-painting a pattern! There are tons of clever ways to paint tile, granted it is labor-intensive from sanding using multiple grits, to priming multiple coats and painting multiple layers, it does provide a non-destructive alternative to replacing tile with all its added costs and headache.
Lastly, we finished with Boho-Mediterranean decor throughout to add those final touches, it was beautiful!
