The Støry

Our client came to us wanting to update her entire home before selling, with the goal of improving overall value and appeal. The guest bathroom was the first space on our list, and it was in rough shape—heavily outdated, showing signs of water damage, and with a layout that didn’t make sense for how the space should function. It was clear this wasn’t going to be a quick refresh, but a full rework from the start.

The Design

We leaned into a blend of French country and Parisian charm for this bathroom’s style. The patterns were intentionally selected, staying within a cohesive palette, while the accessories introduce color and personality throughout the space.

Originally, the layout felt broken into four bulky sections: a built-in vanity, a storage cabinet, a toilet room, and a shower. Nothing about the space felt open or inviting, so after completely gutting the bathroom, we focused on reworking the layout on the left side of the room. By swapping the shower and toilet, we were able to significantly improve the flow, instantly making the bathroom feel less cramped and more visually balanced.

Another key design decision was whether to refresh the built-in or remove it. While the cabinet offered storage, it visually weighed the space down. After some consideration, we replaced it with a lower pull-out cabinet that functions as a hamper and bench, then added floating shelves above for baskets and storage.

We immediately fell in love with this checkered porcelain floor tile and felt it aligned perfectly with our client’s style direction. From there, we introduced wallpaper on select walls to avoid overwhelming the space. The shower tile was chosen to echo the fluted detailing on the vanity, a detail also carried through to the pendant lights above.

To complete the space, we focused on layering in details—hardware, lighting, and decor—allowing the finishes to shine against a mostly neutral, patterned backdrop. The result is a guest bathroom that feels functional, balanced, and memorable.
