Light & Airy Øffice
The Støry
Our client came to us with a challenge—and a vision. She needed a home office that could do it all: serve as a guest room, house her piano, double as a workout space, and showcase her most cherished pieces. The result is a multifunctional, beautifully styled room that effortlessly balances work, exercise, and rest.
The Design
The room began as a blank slate, but with a long list of needs. With so many functions to fit into one space, the layout quickly became the biggest design challenge. We started by building a 3D model, allowing us to test different configurations and thoughtfully place the pieces our client wanted to keep. One major decision was choosing between a Murphy bed or a fold-out sofa. While a sofa would take up valuable floor space, the Murphy bed allowed us to preserve openness—key when fitting a desk, Peloton, and piano into one room.
Once the Murphy bed was selected, the layout was carefully planned so it could be pulled down without requiring the entire room to be rearranged. Because this space would primarily function as a home office, we positioned the desk beneath the windows to maximize natural light and productivity. This placement also ensured that when the bed is down, there’s still space to move comfortably around it—making the room functional whether it’s being used for work or hosting guests.
Because this was a tight space, every wall needed to serve a purpose—and feel interesting. Walking into the room, the desk under the windows creates a beautiful first impression, but the side walls were just as important. We added wallpaper to the Murphy bed wall to create a layered backdrop for open shelving, giving our client a place to display her collectibles and treasures. Upper shelves offer visual interest, while lower cabinets provide concealed storage to keep the room organized and clutter-free. The cabinet top also doubles as a convenient nightstand when guests are staying over.
The opposite wall was designed with movement and balance in mind. The exercise bike faces the window for a light-filled workout experience, while staying visually out of the way during the workday. The piano fits seamlessly into the remaining corner, and to highlight her prized artwork, we added fluted panels that draw the eye and give the wall a sculptural, custom feel—simple, beautiful, and entirely personal.
Throughout the design, keeping the space light and airy was essential. Neutral wallpaper, soft finishes, and understated decor ensured the room felt calm rather than overwhelming. With so many functions in one place, avoiding visual clutter was key—this is first and foremost a space for focus and productivity. What started as an overwhelming, underutilized room is now a beautifully organized and highly functional space where everything works together—and where our client can truly get things done.
