…and we're selling our house
It’s been a long time coming but we finally decided to sell our house. We spent countless days, nights, weeks and months prepping everything imaginable. The first thing we really had to decide on was the overall feel of the place and what we can actually do with our budget (which wasn’t a lot). We created a list of things that we ideally wanted to change. That included replacing flooring, kitchen cabinets, upgrading the fireplace, remodeling both master and guest bathrooms… then attack the behemoth of a mess that we called a front yard. From there, we created a list of items we can realistically tackle in a DIY fashion vs. items we definitely had to pay for.
It helps when your husband works in construction. Without a doubt, that was a major reason to us staying on top of our plan. So pro tip: If you’re on a tight budget, seek out your friends or acquaintances in the construction business. They love the side jobs and you’ll love the results.
We started with the flooring throughout the house. We landed on a gray rustic-patterned vinyl that’s 100% waterproof. I am so in love!
Around the same time, we tackled both bathrooms. When you decide on a tone, you have to take in consideration the flow of the space. Our master bedroom is a darker feel so we decided to keep that going throughout the master bathroom. We chose darker tile, tore the 90’s looking vanity and replaced it with his & hers sinks to open up the small space and we changed all hooks, handles, light fixture to maintain the oil-rubbed bronze look.
For our guest bathroom, we wanted a modern Farmhouse look with a light, airy feel. We landed on a pastel pink color for the walls with greenery, rustic decor and oil-rubbed bronze hardware. Aside from the flooring, everything else we did ourselves. I’ll go over some things you can do to save money in house remodeling in a later blog.
The list of DIY things we tackled included changing the fireplace façade, reforming our kitchen cabinets, changing the outdoor window trim and building our outdoor pergola & bar. The list of things we paid for included outside whole house repainting, front yard landscaping and replacing the windows.

What we both had to accept was living with chaos for a while. This was exceptionally hard for both of us and if you know our personalities, you’ll understand why. But we knew that the end results are so worth the growing pains…. and they really were 🤗
